The golden asticot or Calliphora vomitoria is the larva commonly known as the "fresh fly". It belongs to the family of brachyuran diptera. It differs from the white asticot by its golden colour.
It has a vermiform structure and ranges in size from 1 to 2 cm.
It is packaged in two formats: a 125 cc plastic box on a special bed of natural wood shavings, or a 1 litre plastic bag with a bed of natural wood shavings.
This species is in the larval stage. It uses protein enzymes and performs a crushing action with its mouthparts in order to penetrate the bodies of the organisms on which it feeds.
This bait is not able to regulate its temperature, so it is highly dependent on the ambient temperature for its development.
It is very suitable for coup fishing.
Available all year round, but may be subject to shortages due to inclement weather.
All worms can have a loss of 40 % of their original weight, according to species.

This bait is suitable for all types of freshwater fish, especially trout. It is very effective for casting due to its density. We must consider the appropriate legislation according to the species or seasonal period.
Tips for good conservation
Constant conservation between 0 and 2 ºC, as higher temperatures will accelerate its development.
