SQUILLA MANTIS L

Product description

The Squilla mantis is a sepia-brown or salmon-coloured stomatopod crustacean. Its head is joined to the thorax. It has eight pairs of appendages, the first five are subchelate and the second is particularly developed. It uses its teeth to immobilise its prey.

It is packaged in a plastic box containing between 10 pieces depending on size.

Main characteristics

The Squilla mantis mainly live in the Mediterranean Sea and in the warmer parts of the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from which our product comes. They dig their U-shaped burrows in tidal areas, especially with sandy and muddy substrates rich in organic matter.

They are caught by shellfish diggers. Because it is a fragile animal, casts should not be too long, as they may damage it.

Recommended for bobber fishing, although it can also be an interesting bait for bottom fishing.

Availability

Available all year round, but may be subject to shortages due to inclement weather.
All worms can have a loss of 40 % of their original weight, according to species.
